The first festival of its kind ever to be held in Shreveport’s historic Betty Virginia Park, Crawfest is a celebration of food, music, and community. In its 2017 debut, Crawfest hosted over 6,000 people to the free admission event, and in 2018 the crowd of over 10,000 marked the largest single day gathering in the park’s history. Concessions include Louisiana crawfish boiled onsite, a whole hog roast, smoked barbecue, and various other food, desserts, and drinks from a variety of local vendors.
Live music is at the core of the event, with bands performing all day for eight hours. Local and regional headliners entertain the crowd with sounds of rock, blues, country, and funk. Local artists are on site with their works on display, and a huge carnival is erected where kids compete and play on a variety of activities and rides. Area nonprofits are given free tent space, where they can interact with the community and grow their outreach.
For its third year, Crawfest plans to add a second day, giving patrons a full weekend of live music, food, art, drink, and fun in the park. The event will continue the tradition of donating a portion of proceeds to the local neighborhood association, for improvements to be made in the park.
